What role does religious literature play in a culture?

The Piute legend Why the Grand Canyon was Formed is an example of cultural literature.  What answers do these types of literature seek to solve?  Are these writing still relevant today?  How do you think you could apply the lesson from this story?

  1. I think these sort of stories are made to answer a question; like, why people are like they were in that story, or something simple as why the tide comes in and out. This type of writing is very relevant (especially in kids' books, I noticed). The story's lesson can be applied by being more mindful of why you are feeling what you are feeling, and correcting it if needs be.

  3. I think that these types of stories seek to find reason behind things we don't know or why certain things happen. I believe that these stories are still relevant. Different views or even just the meaning behind stories can help you relate to your situations or find reason behind them.

  5. Stories like these show us the tales and stories other cultures are told and share growing up, or tell to their kids. Its just like The Three Little Pigs, and stories like that. Some people grow up hearing that, others grow up hearing different stories.

Stories like these tend to have a very important lesson for life. They can vary greatly, but they are important none the less. They also help keep cultures alive.

Yes writings like these are still around and important, you just need to know how to find them.

Well, I dont want to become a jealous and angry person, so I'll just try and control the things I can, and not worry too much about the things I cant control.

  7. religious literature can be very influential just like how the book of mormon is very popular around this area because of the way utah was set up. Amish communities are based on a religious book and beliefs.

  8. These native American stories are their history, they answer the questions of were they believe they came from. If you believe in these stories then i guess they could be relevant.
